Queens Birthday Honours List 2021

Our Chief Officer Tonia Enderbury has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queens Birthday Honours List in recognition for services to the community.

In response to being awarded the BEM she said ” It was a total shock.  I didn’t have any idea at all.  Obviously I am very honoured and proud to accept it.  It’s humbling that somebody has taken the time to nominate me in the first place.  I see this as recognition for the charity, staff and volunteers and for all the hard work which we carried out during the pandemic.”

The Princess Royal visited Droitwich Rugby Club to thank club members and Droitwich CVS for all that they have done to support their local community during the Coronavirus pandemic.

During the first lockdown last year, Droitwich Rugby Club partnered with Droitwich CVS -Transport, Community Education, Volunteer Service to deliver a food supply and support scheme for the entire local Wychavon Community. The scheme provided 16,000 meals with help or support, via food parcels or wellbeing packs.

Over 90 people tirelessly gave up their time to ensure that Droitwich and the surrounding areas were covered and that people in the local area received the help and support many so badly needed. Droitwich CVS took calls and requests from those in need whilst Droitwich RFC converted the clubhouse to allow them to purchase, source, package, and distribute the Food Parcels to the local community. A food parcel was developed that would cover the basic needs using dried and tinned products, adding in other donated goods when received. One of the volunteers designed recipes to match the contents of the food parcels, giving people ideas on what meals they could make.

Brigadier Roger Brunt, Worcestershire’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant, said;

”All the volunteers at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground were thrilled to see HRH and warmly welcomed her interest and encouragement of their fantastic efforts for their community over the past 12 months.”

Craig Browne – Droitwich RFC said;

It was a great privilege to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground on Monday. We really enjoyed re-visiting the excellent work of all our Volunteers, at a time when the local community was most in need. The Princess heard about all of the detail around the successful ongoing partnership with Droitwich CVS & how the two organisations adapted to offer valuable services within the community. To think just a year ago, the clubhouse was filled with Hundreds of Long Life products has really hit home everyone’s fantastic achievements.

It was a huge honour and privilege to meet HRH and for our partnership to be recognised. With a small team we have been able to support thousands of residents, not just with food parcels, but prescription deliveries, transport to medical appointments, and well-being bags. It has been wonderful to see how the community has come together and we are proud to be at the centre of this.
